This is our D.A.R.E. Van.  It was purchased with money taken from a D.U.I. confiscation.  It isn't a corvette, but it gets me around the county!

"Faster than a speeding bullet!"

Hello!  I am Deputy Puckett from the Highland County Sheriff's Office in Hillsboro, Ohio
where
Sheriff Ronald Ward is the Sheriff.  I instruct the D.A.R.E. Program for all the
schools in the county.
D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.  This is
a curriculum that deals with the issues of drugs
and violence.  It is taught by a
uniformed law enforcement officer with specialized training.   The  program has s
everal components.  The K-4 grade visitaion Program, the 5-6 grade core Program,
Ji Hi and Sr Hi Programs and a Parent Program.

Here in Highland County we serve 5 public school districts
(listed above) with our main emphasis on the 6th grade core Program reaching over 700 students a year.  The K-4 visitation Program is implimented as time allows and this year we will be offering
the Jr High Program to schools that wish to take part.

More information can be found out  about the D.A.R.E Program,
it's effectiveness, and recient studies at the
Official D.A.R.E. Web Site at
www.DARE.com or E-mail me at  DARE@cops.com
We also present several other safety programs including  Eddie Eagle Gun Safety and the Ohio 3rd Grade Safety Belt Program.  We are involved with the National Child Safety Council and their mascot  "Safety Pup", who supplies safety  oriented assesmblies to the Elementry School.  We work closely with the local MADD chapter providing summer street dances, and help with the "None Under 21" alcohol awarness program, Prom Promise and Red Ribbon Week.   We are also involved with an after school program at "the Bridge"
(an after school gameroom) put on by Family RecoveryServices.

In D.A.R.E. we try to do alot of fun things besides just learning.  Positive Alternatives we call them.  Things you can do instead of drugs.  We have dances, roller skating parties, and every year go to "D.A.R.E. Day witn the Cincinnati Reds".  This is always alot of fun!  And after the game the kids get to run the bases at  Cinergy Field!

DRUG FREE!
